Who will take home the Golden Boot at the Qatar World Cup in 2022?

The prestigious Golden Boot trophy will be presented to the player who scores the most goals during the tournament.

Teams have entered the knockout phase of the World Cup in Qatar, and players are competing not only for the title of their country but also for the prestigious Golden Boot trophy.

The Golden Boot is given to the individual player who has scored the most goals in the tournament, and if there is a tie for goals scored, the number of assists by a player is taken into account.

If two players are tied on both counts, the person who played the fewest minutes wins.

England captain Harry Kane won the World Cup in Russia in 2018, scoring six goals and leading his team to the semi-finals.

The following are the top contenders for the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup:

Kylian Mbappe

The 23-year-old scored against Australia in his team's first Group D match and added a second-half double against Denmark as France advanced to the knockout stages.

He did not score in Tunisia's famous upset in their final group match, but he added two more goals to his tally in a 3-1 win over Poland on Sunday.

Alvaro Morata

The Atletico Madrid striker scored in Spain's three Group E games, including one off the bench against 2014 champions Germany.

Morata, who had been replaced in the starting lineup by Marco Asensio in Spain's first two World Cup games, set up Spain's fifth goal in a 7-0 thrashing of Costa Rica before scoring himself to cap off a one-sided opener.

He put Luis Enrique's team ahead in their final group game, but they were defeated as Japan staged their second stunning tournament turnaround to advance to the last 16.

Marcus Rashford

England's striker had a fantastic start to his World Cup campaign in Qatar.

Rashford's place in the squad was in doubt a few months ago due to form and fitness, but the Manchester United forward has risen to the top of the Golden Boot standings after scoring twice in England's rout of a Gareth Bale-led Wales side.

During the group stage, Rashford's teammates Phil Foden, Jack Grealish (both Manchester City), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Chelsea), and Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund) all scored.

Rashford came on as a substitute in the 65th minute to replace Saka in England's 3-0 victory over Senegal in the last 16. Saka's goal against Senegal brought him to a level with Rashford in terms of plans for the season.

Cody Gakpo

So far, the Dutch forward has found the back of the net on a regular basis in Qatar, as the Netherlands advanced to the last 16 after finishing first in Group A.

Gakpo, on the other hand, was unable to add to his tally in the Netherlands' 3-1 victory over the United States in the last 16.

The 23-year-old has been influential in PSV Eindhoven's run to the Europa League knockout stages and has been the subject of transfer speculation, with top European clubs reportedly vying for his signature when the transfer window opens next summer.

Lionel Messi

The Argentina legend is taking part in what he believes will be his final World Cup.

The 35-year-old began his career with a penalty kick in a shock Group C loss to Saudi Arabia, before scoring and assisting Enzo Fernandez in an emotional win over Mexico.

Messi also scored in Argentina's 2-1 semifinal victory over Australia, putting his team ahead after 35 minutes with a calmly taken low strike for his 94th international goal.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has had a trophy-laden club career, and his fans around the world are hoping he can finally help his country win a World Cup this time around.

Bruno Fernandes

The controversy surrounding Ronaldo and his acrimonious departure from Manchester United has clouded Portugal's World Cup campaign in Qatar.

However, his former club teammate, 28-year-old Bruno Fernandes, has emerged from Ronaldo's shadow by scoring twice against Uruguay after assisting on two goals in Portugal's 3-2 win over Ghana.
