Luka Doncic scores 51 points in the Mavericks' victory, capping off a historic five-game winning streak.
SAN ANTONIO, TX — Dallas superstar Luka Doncic finished a historic five-game winning streak with 51 points, and the Mavericks needed every one of them to defeat the San Antonio Spurs.
Doncic had two rebounds and two free throws in the final 4.5 seconds to help Dallas escape with a 126-125 victory over San Antonio on Saturday night.
Doncic scored 50 points for the third time in five games, including 60 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists in an overtime victory over the Knicks on Tuesday. He is the first player in NBA history to record 250 points, 50 rebounds, and 50 assists in five games.
"It's unbelievable," said Mavericks center Christian Wood. "In my seven years in the league, I've never seen anyone do what he can do. He's on a tear right now. He's performing like an MVP. Clearly one of the league's best players."
Wood scored 25 points as Dallas defeated San Antonio for the fifth time in a row.
Sam Antonio's Keldon Johnson scored 30 points, Jeremy Sochan added 20, and Jakob Poeltl had 19 points and 15 rebounds.
The Mavericks had to scramble in the final minute after leading by 17 points.
Dallas forward Davis Bertans fouled San Antonio guard Tre Jones after Jones intentionally missed the second of two free throws with the Spurs trailing 126-124. Jones then hit the first of two free throws but missed the second.
Doncic missed two free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining, denying San Antonio a game-winning shot.
"It's not easy to win here," said Mavericks coach Jason Kidd. "However, Luka was incredible once again. He saves us yet again by missing free throws as much as he wanted to make down the stretch, so they don't have time to set up a play."
Jones finished with a total of 18 points.
