The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced its 2023 award nominations last month, with All Quiet on the Western Front leading the pack with 14 nominations. Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Banshees of Inisherin received the most nominations for acting, with both films also nominated for best film and best director, among other awards.
The stars of your favorite films from the year walked the red carpet before the show, and their looks were undoubtedly memorable. Check out the best.
Florence Pugh
Florence Pugh walked the red carpet at the 2023 BAFTAs wearing an orange Nina Ricci by Harris Reed ensemble. The Wonder actress wore a pleated tulle ruffle bustier top and a long pleated tulle mermaid ruffle skirt. Reed, the fashion house's newly appointed creative director, wrote on Instagram that Pugh is wearing his first runway look in his new post. "This dress is based on an orange couture gown from the @ninaricci archival 1988 collection," he wrote of the body-hugging gown styled by Rebecca Corbin-Murray, adding, "I am absolutely speechless to have such an incredible individual wearing it."
Angela Bassett
In a lavender column gown, Angela Bassett walked the red carpet at the 2023 BAFTAs. Jennifer Austin styled the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star's Pamella Roland gown, which featured voluminous sleeves for added drama. "This dress was inspired by the tulips and flowers of spring," Austin wrote on Instagram. Bassett accessorized with Boucheron jewels, a Judith Leiber bag, and Le Silla heels.
Jodie Turner-Smith
On the red carpet for the 2023 BAFTAs, Jodie Turner-Smith wore a stunning purple gown. The gown had several details, including a sheer top, sequins all over, and feathered points. The ombré purple feathers on the skirt and sleeves, as well as the floral appliqués around the top and sleeves of the dress, completed the many details. Turner-Smith, however, did not stop there. The actress and model adorned her face with gemstones for a faux freckle effect, adding even more glitz to her 'fit.
Gwendoline Christie
On the red carpet of the 2023 BAFTAs, Gwendoline Christie wore a black Giles Deacon gown. The floor-length gown worn by the Wednesday star featured ruffled details from head to toe, as well as a contrasting cinched waist and cap sleeves. Christie wore two gold rings and a bold red lip for her look, which appears to have walked right off the set of her Netflix show about the Addams family.
Cynthia Erivo
Kate Middleton
On the red carpet for the 2023 BAFTAs, Kate Middleton wore a flowy, one-shoulder white gown. According to Vanity Fair, her gown is a reworked version of her 2019 BAFTAs gown by Alexander McQueen. Middleton wore a white gown with black opera gloves and gold shoes for her first red carpet-appearance as Princess of Wales. This is the Prince and Princess of Wales' first appearance at the BAFTAs since COVID. The couple has attended several times in the past, and Middleton frequently dresses in McQueen for the big occasion.
Sophie Turner
Sophie Turner walked the red carpet at the 2023 BAFTAs in a lace Louis Vuitton gown. The floor-length, slightly sheer black lace gown was embellished with jewels for subtle pops of color and visual appeal. Each jewel was a different size, shape, and color, adding a playful element to the look. The actress finished off her look with black heels.
Ana de Armas
On the red carpet for the 2023 BAFTAs, Ana de Armas wore a delicate pink Louis Vuitton gown. Blonde's star, who is nominated for Best Picture at this year's Oscars, wore a spaghetti strap gown with sweet ruffle detail at the top and a short train. She opted for a small necklace and rings as her accessories. De Armas wore her hair down around her face and wore a bold red lip in the style of Marilyn Monroe.
Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh walked the red carpet at the 2023 BAFTAs in a champagne-colored Christian Dior suit. Her ensemble included cape sleeves to add volume to the suit jacket. The Everything, Everything, Everywhere star, who is nominated for a leading actress at this year's award show, also went all out with her jewelry, wearing glittering earrings, a watch, bracelets, and a ring.
Danielle Deadwyler
On the red carpet for the 2023 BAFTAs, Danielle Deadwyler wore a bright Armani Privé gown. As she walked down the red carpet, the Till star's gown — a bright blue gown with a green bodice — floated around her.
