FIFA withdraws Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023TM.
Following today's meeting between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and President of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) Erick Thohir, FIFA has decided to withdraw Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023TM due to the current circumstances. The tournament dates are currently unchanged, and a new host will be announced as soon as possible. At a later stage, potential sanctions against the PSSI may also be decided.
FIFA would like to emphasize that, despite this decision, it remains committed to actively assisting the PSSI, in close collaboration and with the support of President Widodo's government, in the transformation process of Indonesian football following the October 2022 tragedy. Members of the FIFA team will remain in Indonesia in the coming months to provide necessary assistance to the PSSI, which is led by President Thohir.
A new meeting between the FIFA President and the PSSI President will be scheduled soon for further discussions.
