Sheffield United has been elevated to the Premier League.
Sheffield United has been promoted to the Premier League after a two-year absence.
Paul Heckingbottom's side defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at Bramall Lane on Wednesday, securing their promotion to the Premier League with three games to spare.
Sander Berge and Anel Ahmedhodzic scored second-half goals to give the Yorkshire club victory and automatic promotion to the Premier League for 2023-24.
United had an impressive season in the Premier League under Chris Wilder after reaching the top flight for the first time in 12 years, finishing ninth with the fourth-best defensive record in the division, conceding 39 goals.
However, due to the pandemic, the club struggled and was relegated to the Championship in 2021 after finishing bottom of the Premier League with only seven wins.
Heckingbottom took over for Wilder in the final months of that disastrous season, but was made permanent in November of that year after a poor start to the season under Slavisa Jokanovic.
The club reached the play-offs under Heckingbottom, only to be knocked out in the semi-finals by eventual winners Nottingham Forest.
Despite off-field turmoil such as ownership uncertainty and a recent transfer embargo, the club has recently held off Middlesbrough and Luton Town. They have the third-best goal scoring record in the league and the second-fewest goals conceded.
