After leaking, the first "Grand Theft Auto 6" trailer is released.
With the release of "Grand Theft Auto 6," the follow-up to a video game that was once dubbed the most successful single entertainment media product ever, a decade of expectation came to a head on Monday night.
Following a social media leak, the game's debut trailer, which was greatly anticipated, was unveiled by series producer Rockstar Games. Originally, the trailer was supposed to air on December 5th, early in the morning.
Developer Rockstar Games provided an insight into Vice City, the made-up Miami, in a minute and a half long trailer. The franchise has parodied the quirks of contemporary American culture. The characters of this story, which seems to be about a couple who "started from the bottom," are Jason and Lucia. The 1989 single "Love is a Long Road" by Tom Petty provides background music as the trailer shows off several aspects of Vice City culture, such as nightlife and crowded beaches. The game is expected to be released in 2025 at some point.
Ten years have passed since "Grand Theft Auto 5" broke sales records with a total of $815.7 million in a single day—the most money ever made in a single day by an entertainment product—according to Guinness World Records. It became the fastest video game to reach $1 billion in sales in just three days.
The ten-year life evolution is also depicted in the trailer. The satire in "GTA 5" was directed towards Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook. "GTA 6" seems to recognize the ways in which live-streaming, Instagram Live, TikTok, and footage of people freaking out in public are permeating mainstream culture and the internet in 2023. It appears to strongly rely on the "Florida Man" stereotype, which holds that people who live in that state are more likely to act irrationally and criminally in public. The dress and habits of Southern hip-hop are also prominently featured.
Recent years have seen a lot of interest in "GTA 6," thanks to public leaks of early screenshots and gameplay videos. For years, there have been rumors that the Vice City-based game would center on a male and female pair of criminal protagonists. A German practical joker gained notoriety for interrupting live shows and TV shows, asking to see "Grand Theft Auto 6," at Europe's largest gaming conference, Gamescom, in August.
"Grand Theft Auto 5" is the second-best-selling video game of all time, behind "Minecraft," with over 190 million copies sold. In subsequent years, it has continued to show up on a monthly basis in game sales statistics. Thanks to "GTA Online," a vibrant, virtual replica of Southern California that millions of people referred to as their second home and playground, it continued to bring in billions of dollars even after its release.
