T20 World Cup 2022: Sri Lanka's problems ahead of their clash vs New Zealand, "I forgot the count" - Aakash Chopra

"I forgot the count" - Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra believes Sri Lanka's injury concerns will be the biggest issue in their T20 World Cup 2022 match against New Zealand.

On Saturday, October 29, the two sides will square off in a Group 1 Super 12 match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Binura Fernando has been ruled out of the tournament for the Lankan Lions, who have already been hit by injuries to some first-choice seamers.

"Sri Lanka faces a variety of issues. They won the Asia Cup, but they had injury replacements, then replacements for replacements, and now it appears replacements for them. I've lost track of how many people they've replaced."

Dasun Shanaka and company have been severely harmed in the seam-bowling department, according to Chopra. The former Indian batter went on to explain:

"Madushanka, Madushan, and Dushmantha Chameera are absent. Binura Fernando is no longer present. Will Asitha Fernando and Pathirana attend, how many people will follow, and who will play? You only have one Stepney in the vehicle; they've already changed four. So, in terms of fast bowling, they appear to be in terrible shape."

Asitha Fernando has taken over for Binura Fernando, who was brought in to replace Dilshan Madushanka in Sri Lanka's squad. The 2014 T20 World Cup champions have also called up standbys Matheesha Pathirana and Niroshan Dickwella for the injury-plagued squad.
